I've been asked so many times how did I discover my passion for photography? Well, let me tell you my story so I can answer that question!
I was born in Uruguay I lived there for 16 years then I also want to live in Brazil for 2 or 3 years after that when I was 18 I moved to the USA with my best friend at the time.
Years went by and I met my soulmate who is now my husband. And then three year after we got married we had our first daughter.
When my daughter was six month, I attended a funeral for the daughter of a coworker, the little girl was 10 or 11 years old. Not only this broke my heart and I know it sounds crazy but it was in that moment that I realized that I wanted to become a photographer and you may wonder why?.
When I was at the funeral I went to her mom and gave her a hug, we talked for a minute and I remember her exact words "Take as many pictures of your kids as you can, because one day they must be all you have left".
And those words hit me really hard, not only because of what I saw (all her pain that I could feel) but also because it made sense.
I went ahead and got my camera (that my husband bought me when my daughter was born as my present I guess for having a baby).
I started taking as many pictures of her as I could. One because I loved her and loved taking them and two because I remembered what this mom told me.
I tried and tried so hard to make my pictures look professional, I don't really know exactly why I was doing it that way but deep inside me I felt that that's what I wanted them to look like professional, not just pictures but capturing the moment and also make him look professional.
I remember getting frustrated a lot because my pictures did not look professional, then I decided to go and buy a version of Photoshop because I thought, oh well this is what's going to do it for me so I went ahead and bought the Photoshop.
And guess what? That didn't make it better either.
What I did was to keep trying and not give up because that's just me my nature. I also took some pictures for friends and that's when I realized it was really my passion, that I was not just doing that for my daughters or for anything else but for myself because, I was the one enjoying doing it and it took my mind away from everything else and it gave me the satisfaction of the a challenge. I made the decision of studying photography and go to school for it. I knew it was what I wanted to do for the rest of my life and I am a person that likes to perfect myself and be better at what I do. Even up to now I constantly study photography every day take different classes constantly. You can say I am a perfectionist.
I firmly believe if you want something in life and you work for it hard you will achieve what you set your mind to.
